Choosing a medical school is a very time consuming and stressful process. There are many factors to consider. One must first assess where they are likely to get in because of academics and activities. Next one should consider the location of the medical school. Also to be considered, is the price of attending each medical school, as some are much more expensive than others. One should also consider which medical school best matches their desired specialty and can help them get a job in that field.

To begin your list of possible medical schools, consider what schools you will get into. There are of course, different levels of academics for schools. Perhaps, you wish to attend an Ivy league school but you just don’t have the academics to get in. Sit down, and think realistically about where you will get in and begin your list. Start with a list that is on the larger size since you have many more factors to consider in your search for a medical school.

The next thing to consider is the location of each medical school on your list. Do you want to be close to home or possibly close to hospitals that have work in your specialty. You also want to consider internships and their location. Are there any internships in your desired location close to where you wish to attend medical school? There are many things to consider with location, such as surrounding neighborhoods and what they have to offer.

Next, research general scholarships and scholarships specific to the med schools on your list and apply for them. You must consider the cost of each school and whether or not they fit in your budget. However, you cannot completely access these factors until you apply for scholarship and aid and then access the real cost of each medical school. Remember to include any traveling, such as for the holidays, or for internships when you consider your budget.

Last but certainly not least, be sure that the medical school has a focus in your desired specialty. However, you must realize that it is not at all uncommon for people to change their minds as to their desired specialty so it is advised that you choose more than one specialty and be sure that each med school on your list has them all. Keep in mind that you should also research job availability for your specialty in the area that you wish to reside in for the future.

When choosing which medical school to attend, there are many factors to consider. Take your list of med schools and prioritize it according to what is important to you and to your future. The most important thing for you may be location while for others, it may be cost. Analyze your list and make choices and apply to the medical schools that seem like the best fit for you.
