Medical research centers are vital to the future of medical care. Without medical research centers, there would be no advancement in medical research for cures for common ailments, serious diseases or in patient care. In order to have medical research centers, researchers must acquire vast amounts of funding. The equipment alone for these medical research centers, often costs millions of dollars and there are many other costs associated with these centers. Acquiring the proper funding can be done in several different ways. No matter what the manner of acquiring funding, medical research centers all have the same desire and that is to find cures and advance patient care.

Some medical research centers acquire funding through fundraising. While holding their fundraising events, researchers often educate the public as to their plight and therefore, increase interest in their research. However, it can be difficult to acquire proper research funding simply by holding fundraisers and therefore many medical research centers must also have alternate sources of income.

There are medical research centers that are strictly funded by pharmaceutical companies. While it can easily be argued that this is conflict of interest, there is a lot of research done that would otherwise not be possible. It is easy to see why medical research centers would ideally not take money from pharmaceutical companies because in the long run, their only goal is to profit from their research. To pharmaceutical companies, medical research is a business proposition , in which their goal is to increase profits. This does, of course lend to the possibility that they want their research to say that their medications work or that other companies medication does not work. However, it can also be said that we need those companies to fund research or new medications and cures would come to a standstill. It should also be noted, that some pharmaceutical companies donate some of their profits and also give medication to those that cannot afford it.

There are also research hospitals that have their own medical research center. These medical research centers get funding in much the same way as the other centers do. The only difference is that these are mostly funded by donations and benefactors who, in return will have the hospital or medical research center named in their honor or in honor of a loved one. These medical research centers tend to be more focused on one ailment such as cancer, or heart problems. It is frequently the case, that such a hospital saved a person suffering from that ailment and in return, received a donation because of their work.

Funding for medical research centers in very important. Without it, there would be no one to find new medications for common ailments, or to find cures for cancer and disease. Although their is often a conflict if interest in funding for medical research centers, it is also true that we would have no progress without them. One must weigh those conflicts of interest with someday finding the sure for cancer or Aids.
